I got to read two parts at once! That's like Christmas!
Sprat, don't take this the wrong way, but I want you to write more Danny Gokey. The world needs more of your Gokey. That was just... ohmyfuckinggod.
You have so many awesome little details in this and your characters are so three dimensional, I'm still finding it hard to believe that this isn't a whole 'verse! It reads like one.
I loved both POVs, but I especially loved Adam's Neil impersonation, I think. So if it is at all possible, I'd like to read a Adam-in-Neil's-clothing POV next. *g*
But seriously, thank you for humoring me. You're awesome.

Yall, this is amazing!!! I want more Mt. Carmel!! And more of Glee Club!! Damn, I wish i had money to donate....That's the only reason i signed up as an author even though I don't have time to write. I just wanted to donate something, and I'm totally broke. *sigh* Guess I'll just wait and hope someone else can donate and convince you two to update. =)

Cathalin and Sprat, you are both made entirely of awesome! I am completely in L-O-V-E with both of your stories. No pressure, but I would happily make a couple of $5 donations for both of you to post more.

However, I totally owe you all a Part 3 already, so will post it sometime early in the week! Also, Zoniduck, you sweetie, if you want to donate, I'll do a Part 4, eep! (reminds self it's for the children! , though by the time I get it done and posted, it might be later this week. Totally up to you!

Omigosh, these are so good! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Sprat, your AU inspired me to hunt down and watch the pilot episode of Glee. It's so good; I'm officially hooked. I'll definitely be watching the new episode this Wednesday. I thought your HS AU was amazing as a stand-alone, but it's somehow even better now that I've watched Glee. The scenes are funnier and I get things that I didn't quite get before. Also, as schmoopy and silly as it sounds, it made the whole reason for this charity auction really hit home. In Glee, you have this music program that sucks because all the money is going to athletics. It may only be a TV show, but it's something that's actually happening in RL. The money raised during this auction is helping to keep the arts alive in underprivileged schools. It's such a good cause and I love all you wonderful authors for volunteering to do this. <3
(Side note: I discovered while watching Glee that I've been living in Adam Lambert land too long. When they pulled out the tickets to see Carmel High School perform, I was like, OMG IT'S ADAM'S HS!!!... only to be reminded moments later that they were in Ohio. FML)

Amyloidplaque, Jerakeen, writerndisguise, zoniduck and kairi: thanks SO MUCH! I'm really glad this is still amusing you guys. Zoniduck: I'm already behind and it's looking like I won't get caught up before the auction ends, but if you don't mind waiting a day or two for your part, go ahead and donate. I'll write a new piece of the Glee AU for you as soon as I can. Amyloidplaque and debaser: I'm working on new pieces for each of you, but I probably won't get them posted before the auction ends tonight. I'm sorry! Hopefully they will appear here soon, though, so keep an eye on this thread.

I just donated $5 to Old MacDonald Had A Band, and $5 to Moving To The Music. No pressure on either of you. Honest. Post the new parts as the spirit moves you.

This piece fits after part 3. Sorry it took so long to get this to you! There should be more later today, I hope.
After the last audition, Mr. Cook thanks everybody and then asks if they want to hear a joke and then completely disregards the fact that no one said they did and tells them one anyway, something about a grasshopper named Steve. Megan laughs out loud and for real but pretty much everybody else does not. Mr. Cook grins at them anyway and tells them he'll see them on Tuesday.
Adam stands and picks up his bag, slings the strap over his head. Kris stands up, too, sticking his planner into the middle of his binder to make it easier to carry, and then follows Adam outside, catching up with him at the bottom of the concrete steps.
Adam looks at him sidelong, but he slows his pace a little, accommodating Kris's shorter strides. "Hey," he says.
Kris shifts his grip on his binder. "Hi."
They take a few steps in silence. "Your audition was great," Adam says eventually. "You have a good voice."
Kris feels his cheeks get hot. He shakes his head a bunch of times. "Whatever," he says.
Adam gives him another look. "Seriously. I mean, yeah, you were pitchy at first, and kind of out of breath, but you sounded really great toward the end. It's obvious you've been singing for a while. Church choir, I bet, right?"
Kris keeps his eyes on his own feet. His hands are sweaty on his binder. "Not choir, but yeah. Church music program." He looks up at Adam, then back down again. "You're, like, some kind of pro, though, huh?"
Adam huffs a laugh. "No," he says. "I wish." They walk for a while longer. The sun is going down. There are crickets, traffic noises coming faintly up from 12th Avenue, the last bit of rush hour. "I want to be, though," Adam says into the silence. "Broadway stuff, you know? Musical theatre." He looks at Kris sidelong again, cautious, like he's waiting for something.
Kris nods. "I could see that," he says.
Adam laughs again, shakes his head. He fishes in his bag and comes up with a cigarette, which he lights and smokes from before he speaks again. "You aren't normal, man. I just told you my life's ambition is to do musical theatre -- that is your cue to mock me. It's, like, pretty much required."
Kris scratches the back of his neck. "I'm not so big on mocking," he says, and then takes a breath. His stomach lurches a little. He closes his mouth instead of speaking, exhales through his nose.
Adam takes another drag from his cigarette. He looks at Kris, and then away. "What?" he says.
Kris shrugs. "I want to do music, too," he admits. "I play guitar. I want to, you know. Do my own stuff." And jeeze, he has no idea what he's even saying, right now; Adam's actually good and he's just, whatever, self-taught and lame and probably not good at all, despite what his mom says. All those people on American Idol, their moms think they're good, too, it's a common momly delusion, right? He squeezes his eyes closed and makes a face at himself and then trips on a gopher hole and falls spectacularly on his face, because that is his kind of luck.
"Whoa," Adam says, kneeling next to the place where Kris is sprawled in the dirt and dead grass. "Are you okay?"
Kris sits up. Adam puts a helpful hand on his back and it's warm and Adam's face is concerned and close and there are freckles pretty much all over it, across his cheeks and his forehead and the bridge of his nose. Kris swallows. "I'm good," he says. "I, you know." He waves a hand. "I do that all the time. I'm kind of a menace. To myself. I broke my leg once, just from tripping over my own feet. That's how I learned to play the guitar, actually -- I was stuck in a chair for, like, two months, and. I was really bored." He forces his lips closed, finally, because otherwise he's afraid he might never stop talking, will continue to keep talking until his voice eventually just dies away from, um, dehydration. Or something. Adam's eyes are some weird color that Kris can't even figure out.
Adam's mouth twitches. "Well, good," he says. "Not good that you broke your leg -- good that you're okay."
Kris nods. He gets to his feet and dusts himself off. Adam hands him his binder, which Kris almost drops again, because he is just that smooth. "You sure you're all right?" Adam says.
Kris nods and smiles at him, opens his mouth to say thank you again because thank you is probably safe, probably won't set off a whole new bout of babbling. But before he can, somebody honks a car horn in the parking lot a few feet away from them and Kris jumps and then looks up and hey, oh hey, it's Katy.
She looks a little pissed, which he guesses is understandable since he was supposed to meet her in front of the school right after glee club let out, which clearly he completely forgot to do. He makes a sorry face at her and lifts a hand. She rolls her eyes.
Adam is staring at him like he just grew a tentacle from his forehead or something. "Why are you waving at a cheerleader?" he asks.
Kris scratches his head. "Because, um. She's my girlfriend." He shifts his grip on his binder. "I better go," he tells Adam. "I kind of forgot I was supposed to meet her."
Adam shrugs and nods, lighting up another cigarette. "Oh, yeah," he says. "Sure. See you."
He starts walking again, long skinny scarf trailing behind him. "See you Tuesday!" Kris calls after him. Adam lifts a hand, but he doesn't look back.

Awwww! I love Cook and his random bad jokes, and Kris tripping on a gopher hole made me LOL, and the revelation that Kris has a (cheerleading omg!) girlfriend makes me want to give Adam a hug. I am happy this is still being updated

Yaaaay more Glee!AU! Thanks so much, Sprat. This is especially wonderful since I just watched episode 2 of Glee. LOL, love that Katy is a cheerleader. Hope that she's not the Quinn Fabray Queen Bee type though. Poor Adam must be pretty confused, since it was quite apparent that Kris was crushing on him, all awkward and adorable. Can't wait for the next piece. <3

Aw, thanks, you guys!! You're all too sweet. Real life has intruded and I have no new pieces yet. By my count, I still owe two: one for debaser and one for zoniduck. Both of you guys have been pretty awesome about being patient so far. I hope you don't mind waiting a little longer.

Oh my god, I don't mind AT ALL. Actually, if it's easier for you, you can just consider it a donation toward motivating you to continue your GLEE pieces - I love them all.
You're so great!

OMG, sprat, I just discovered your Glee!Fic and YOU WIN AT LIFE, SERIOUSLY. OMG!
Glee! And Idol! It's perfect! Just the sheer concept is enough to make me flail around with joy, but the execution is even better. This fic is made of love and bunnies and rainbows and all kinds of awesomeness! Thank you so much for writing it!!!
I love all the attention to *detail*. Just some of the things I love about the fic:
1. OMG, Bashful-Shy-Underestimating-Himself-Kris is made of so much love. I love everything about him, from the way he trips over the gopher hole to the way he credits the acoustics in the shower for his singing to his hopeful smile at Adam to his reluctance at the audition...OMG!
I swear, I could see and hear this happening in my head. The "uh"s and the "um"s and the Shy!Not-Really-Believing-In-Himself!Kris! Eee!!! HEARTS IN MY EYES.
2. Your Danny Gokey is a work of genius. It's the attention to detail that really makes this fic, and the Danny characterization in particular is just insanely good. I think the best part is the reveal that it's Danny--I started with the description of the rival glee club and thought the guy seemed faintly familiar for some reason, and all the clues are there: the glasses, the preaching, the sparkly vests, the raspy voice...and then you find out that it's Danny! Hee! And Kris's and Adam's reactions to him are appropriately hilarious.
Also: the name of their team is Unlimited. PERFECT. *HEART HANDS*
3. Your Anoop is there in small doses and yet so recognizably Anoop. "The Malignant *what*?" Hee.
4. Adam's Neil voice was awesome. I bet that is totally how Neil sounded as a teenager.
Adam's reactions to Kris are equally awesome. I love all the little subtle touches you put in, like the way he raises his eyebrows when Kris says he's more the choir type, and how he kind of throws stuff out there about himself (like wanting to do musical theater) and sees how Kris reacts. And, of course, his reaction to Kris waving to a cheerleader is priceless.
The classic Kris-Adam dynamic of Kris thinking he's the most average guy in the world and Adam thinking, OMG, where did this guy come from, is he even real? is just great, and you bring exactly the right balance of humor and seriousness to it. *FLAILGASM*
5. I'm repeating myself, but I'm loving all the little details, like the George Bush bobblehead doll and the horrible van and Adam's ascot and Mr. Cook's handpuppet and just...everything. It makes the fic come alive in my head and WHY IS THIS NOT A REAL TELEVISION SHOW? I WOULD WATCH IT ALL THE TIME.
*eagerly awaits the next installment*
